A simple but useful event countdown ticker. Great for web pages under-construction with a known launch date. Got an event you want your users to keep tabs on? Here's a great way to keep them in the loop. Birthdays, Holidays, special occasions - there are a number of applications for which this widget is well suited.

Designed with ease of use in mind, however, rudimentary knowledge of actionscript is assumed. Takes minimal effort to set up the widget, yet the code is open-ended enough to serve as the basis for more complex applications.

Additional documentation describes how to modify the widget's parameters to your liking.

Future versions will include:
- Parameters to be set externally via XML
- Pure V2 component implementation
- And more!!

  • Hi Damion,

everything works fine but, but when I%u2019m going on my website, where the script is located there is an time difference over one hour.

At the moment it%u2019s 11:26 am in Germany and the script will show 039:11:33:20 time left til April, 1st.

I%u2019m missing one hor. The correct remaining time have to be 039:12:33:20.

Does the script calculate the daylight saving? How could I change the time?

    Kind regards,
    Frank H.

  • @tasknet: The date will automatically adjust itself for DST therefore you should have nothing to worry about. In 2009, Daylight Savings time begins on Sunday, March 8 at 2:00am, so you can test if the widget updates itself by changing your machine’s current date to some time after March 8. If the ticker doesn’t automatically adjust itself as it should contact me for further support.

  • Hey Damian

As requested I am pasting this here into the comment box ;-)

    Subject: eventCountDown_V1

    Hey Mate

I bought your countdown about a month ago. I like it simplicity and want to use it on a site to countdown to an event.

I thought that when I got the file I would be able to control the countdown to the hour. It seems I can only set the Month and Day!

My AS skills are not very good, and can see that with some fiddling might be able to get it to countdown to an exact hour that an event starts eg 2pm on the 02nd January 2010.

Could you help? Do you have plans to increase the functionality of this component?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Nik

  • I have just purchased teh component expecting to be able to edit the date using the XML file mentioned. However there is not XML file with the ZIP.

Please let me kow exactly how I can set the countdown date.

i cannot seem to be able to access the parameters of the flash file at all.

so where and how do i set the counter?

if you could supply the code that woudl be useful.

    Thankyou.

  • XML file support was meant for a future version as stated in the description(development of which is now on hold as I am still in the process of learning AS3). As for how to set the countdown date, the zip file contains documentation explaining how this is done (including where the source code resides). Should you have any further difficulties please feel free to contact me.

  • Is there way to make this appear at the top of my FB page and remain at the top of the page without creating a FBML?

    Thanks!
